How to get involved

Getting involved

We are committed to carrying out extensive engagement with people who can input into marine plan making, those who would like to make their views on marine planning known and anybody who has an interest in the marine environment.

Please email planning@marinemanagement.org.uk if you would like to be invovled in the process or updated on our progress.

Marine planning drop-in sessions

We were delighted to see so many people come along to one of the 12 drop-in events we held in the East plan areas. Over 600 people learned more about marine planning and shared their knowledge and expertise of the marine area with us. Find out more information about the sessions and when and where they were.

We have prepared a summary report of the 12 drop-in sessions, including a breakdown of specific local issues from each event. Read our marine planning public drop-in events summary (PDF 57 KB).

Evidence and Issues Report workshops

The Evidence and Issues Report is a major step in the Marine Management Organisation's (MMO) marine planning process and brings together all the available evidence that will be used during the plan options phase in spring 2012.

We held workshops in December 2011 in Norwich, Hull and Peterborough as part of consutltation for the report. The workshops were well attended with over 145 stakeholders joining the MMO over the three days along the East Coast of England.

In February, we will begin discussion and consultation on the draft plan objectives and vision for the East Inshore and East Offshore marine plan areas. We will also be holding a series of drop-in sessions for members of the public from Monday 13 February to Thursday 23 February. The aim of these sessions is to inform people about marine planning and gain an understanding of what the public's issues are in relation to the marine area.

Statement of Public Participation

The Statement of Public Participation (SPP) was approved by the Secretary of State in April, following public consultation in February. This sets out the process for plan making in the East Inshore and East Offshore plan areas, who may be involved in marine planning and how and when people can get involved.

We are currently in the first stage of the process - scoping the content of the marine plans. This includes gathering and analysing data, and identifying key issues to be addressed in the plans. We have developed the Marine Planning Portal, which allows us to display our information and seek comments from people on these data sets.

Read more about how we engaged with stakeholders to develop the SPP.

Future engagement

More information on upcoming engagement events and opportunities to input into the plan making process for the East Inshore and East Offshore plan areas will be available soon.
