Sustainability appraisal
Running alongside the plan making process is the sustainability appraisal (SA), which delivers the requirements of the European Strategic Environmental Assessment Directive. The SA will appraise the social, economic and environmental effects of the marine plans to ensure the plans meet with sustainable development objectives. One SA will be produced for the East Inshore plan area and one for the East Offshore plan area.
We have produced a set of questions and answers (PDF 75 KB) for the sustainability appraisal of East Inshore and East Offshore marine plans.
The SA will feed into the plan making process and forms an integral part of the process. There are three distinct areas:
- the SA incorporating strategic environment assessment
- the Habitats Regulation Assessment
- the Equalities Impact Assessment.
We are currently working with our consultants, Hyder Consulting Ltd, in partnership with Hartley Anderson Associates (inshore), and URS Scott Wilson, in partnership with ABPmer (offshore), to form an advisory panel.
We will keep you updated on our progress with the SA as it develops. If you would like more information or have any questions, please email us at planning@marinemanagent.org.uk
