Hinkley Point C nuclear new build

Main development

In June 2012, NNB Generation Company Ltd (part of the EDF Energy group) applied to the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) for a licence for the marine elements of the proposed Hinkley Point C development. Among other matters, this licence would cover the cooling water infrastructure and Combwich Wharf redevelopment.

Notices were placed in the Bridgwater Mercury, Somerset Gazette and West Somerset Free Press advertising a period for representations. The period for representations closed on Friday 27 July.

Jetty development

In December 2010, NNB Generation Company Ltd applied to the MMO for a harbour empowerment order and two licences in connection with a proposed jetty development at Hinkley Point.

The harbour empowerment order would authorise the creation of a harbour made up of a jetty and some terrestrial works and a harbour authority with powers to operate the jetty and surrounding area. One licence application is for the construction of the jetty and the other licence application is for the dredging of material from a berthing pocket alongside the jetty.

On 16 July 2012, the MMO approved these applications subject to conditions.

The Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change has approved an application for an order under the Transport and Works Act 1992 which is related to the jetty development. A copy of the Secretary of State’s decision letter can be found on the Department of Energy and Climate Change's website.
