Under 10 metre leasing scheme
2012 leasing scheme
We have been contacted by members of the fishing community who have shared concerns that leasing from producer organisations (POs) is soon to end. We would like to reassure those concerned that the MMO's leasing scheme remains in place and will remain active for the remainder of 2012, operating according to the guidelines already issued.
Leasing continues to be a specific business arrangement between the individual under 10 metre vessel owner and the respective PO, and as such we would be interested to hear of any issues owners may have with setting up any such agreements.
If anyone has further enquiries they are welcome to contact us on 0300 123 1032 or email info@marinemanagement.org.uk. They can also contact their local MMO office.
Guidance for the under 10 metre leasing scheme has been updated for 2012.
Limits remain in place for the following stocks:
- North Sea sole (5 tonnes)
- North Sea whiting (10 tonnes)
- North Sea skates and rays (10 tonnes).

Non-sector
Consideration has been given by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) to include non-sector vessels within the leasing scheme.
However, non-sector vessels were previously given the opportunity to lease when the scheme was first introduced and only one vessel took advantage of this. There has beenĀ little representation from the non-sector to join the leasing scheme in current years. Also, it was felt that as leasing was introduced as an emergency measure in light of the emerging impact of the Registered Buyers and Sellers Scheme and a skates and rays by-catch provision, which were issues for under 10 metre vessels and this does not apply to the non-sector.
