European Fisheries Fund
The European Fisheries Fund (EFF) aims to help the fishing industry to become more sustainable and to remain profitable. Through the scheme around £38 million is available in England.
Axes 1 to 3 of the EFF scheme are open for applications until 31 December 2013, or once all of the funding has been allocated.
| Measure | England | Cornwall |
|---|---|---|
| Axis 1: Measures for the adaptation of the community fishing fleet, such as improvements on board fishing vessels. More information on Axis 1. | £11.5 million | £3 million |
| Axis 2: Measures for investments in aquaculture and processing, and for marketing of fishery and aquaculture products. More information on Axis 2. | £4.3 million | £1.2 million |
| Axis 3: Measures of common interest, such as harbour and port developments which will benefit fishermen. More information on Axis 3. | £12 million | £3.5 million |
Different rates of funding apply depending on location, nature of the project and who is applying. The funding pots for Cornwall are ring-fenced as the county has been designated as a convergence area by the EU. This recognises it has a relatively weak economy compared with the EU average.
Axis 4
The Axis 4 programme supports the sustainable development of fisheries areas. It aims to help develop smaller communities where fishing is in decline. It is delivered through local groups who represent the area.
A total of approximately £7.3 million has been made available through the Axis 4 scheme – £3.9 million of this from the EFF and £3.4 million through the Marine Management Organisation and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. More information on Axis 4.
The Innovation Fund
A fund of £1 million to support new ideas that could improve the way the under 10 metre sector operates. The scheme was launched in November 2010 and has now closed for applications. More information on the Innovation Fund.
