Jane Ryder
Jane originally qualified as a solicitor in England and in Scotland and was a partner in Boyd Jameson WS, specialist maritime solicitors where she developed the firm’s commercial and litigation practice. During that time she was also an elected Council member of the Law Society of Scotland, where she was the first Convenor of the Environment Law Committee. She then changed career to become the Director of the Scottish Museums Council for eight years, serving also as a non-executive board member of the UK-wide Council for Museums, Libraries and Archives.
From 2003 to November 2011 she was the first Chief Executive of the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator, responsible for the development and implementation of a modern regulatory system for 23,500 charities operating across Scotland.
In addition to her legal and regulatory career, she has taken on numerous non-executive roles with charities, including acting as Chair of the Scottish Refugee Council and Vice Chair of Stevenson College of Further Education up to 2003 and, from November 2011, Chair of Arts and Business Scotland.
Within the Marine Management Organisation she is Vice Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee, and has a particular interest in ICT strategy and risk management.
